Yoga near Finchley

Your Ritual Yoga is a small Hatha and Yin studio in Golders Green, NW11, a short journey from Finchley. Classes stay small, one teacher takes all of them, and each ends with singing-bowl sound healing and a cup of herbal tea. Hatha is 60 minutes, Yin is 75. Drop-in is £17.

Finchley has no shortage of yoga. What it has less of is the quiet, small-room kind.

The intimate alternative to a busy timetable

Large studios and hot, full rooms genuinely suit some people. If you like the energy of forty mats and a different teacher each week, they are a good fit and you should use them.

But if you find them overstimulating — or you are coming back to yoga after a break, managing tension or an old injury, or you simply want to be looked after for an hour — a small class changes the experience entirely. Real adjustments. A pace set by the room. Somewhere that feels calm the moment you walk in rather than fifteen minutes later.

That is what this is. It is not trying to be a gym.

Who comes to us from Finchley

  • Desk workers and commuters carrying tension in the hips, lower back, shoulders and neck. Yin is usually the answer here — see yoga for tight hips.
  • Busy parents and professionals who want one reliable hour of quiet in the week, at the same time, as a fixed point.
  • Beginners who want a calm place to start with no assumption that they should already be flexible.
  • People who cannot switch off at night. Evening Yin with sound healing is the most common reason people first email.

Choose your pace

Hatha Yoga — 60 minutes. Traditional and aligned. Steady movement that builds strength and ease without ever becoming a workout. All levels.

Yin Yoga — 75 minutes. Slow and deep. Floor poses held for three to five minutes, working on connective tissue rather than muscle, to release stored tension and quiet a racing mind. All levels.

More than a class

Every session ends with singing-bowl sound healing during Shavasana — Himalayan bowls, five to eight minutes, sustained tones you feel in the body. Then herbal tea in a quiet communal space, with no rush to leave.

Both are included in the price of the class. Discover the Ritual Experience.

Your teacher

Tanya teaches every class personally. She is Yoga Alliance RYS 200 certified, registration ID 252157, and trained for 200 hours at Devvrat Yoga School in Varkala, India, completing in December 2025 — Ashtanga Vinyasa and Hatha asana alongside anatomy, philosophy, pranayama and meditation.

The practical result is that she knows your name, remembers your shoulder, and adjusts the class to the people in it. More about Tanya.

Questions people ask before their first class

What is the best way to get to Golders Green from Finchley?

Usually the bus. Finchley and Golders Green sit on different branches of the Northern line, so travelling by tube means changing at Camden Town. The 460 runs directly from North Finchley to Golders Green via Temple Fortune, and the 102 runs directly from East Finchley.

How is a small yoga studio different from a bigger studio in Finchley?

Class size and continuity. Classes stay small and one teacher, Tanya, takes all of them, so she knows your body and your history rather than meeting you fresh each week. There is no hot room and no high-intensity option — it is a slower practice by design.

Do I need to be flexible to start yoga?

No. Most people arriving for a first class cannot touch their toes. Flexibility is a result of practice rather than a requirement for it, and every posture has a modification.

Should I start with Hatha or Yin yoga?

If your mind will not settle or you are not sleeping well, start with Yin — it is slow and passive, with poses held for three to five minutes. If you want to move and build strength, start with Hatha, which is a traditional 60-minute alignment-led class. Many people do one of each in a week.

Is singing-bowl sound healing included in the class price?

Yes. Sound healing happens during Shavasana in every class at no extra cost, and the post-class herbal tea is included too.

How much are yoga classes near Finchley?

Drop-in is £17. An 8-class package is £119 valid for four weeks, which is £14.88 a class. A 12-class package is £180 valid for six weeks, which is £15 a class. Private one-to-one sessions are by appointment.
