Meet Tanya
Your Ritual Yoga was founded by Tanya, a dedicated yoga instructor whose personal journey led her to build a sanctuary for authentic practice in North London.
The Journey to Yoga
Tanya’s path to yoga wasn’t linear. Like many of us, she spent years navigating the demands of modern life—the constant hustle, the mental clutter, the disconnection from her body and breath. Despite external success, she felt something fundamental was missing. Then yoga entered her life, and everything shifted.
What began as a simple curiosity about fitness gradually deepened into a genuine spiritual practice. Tanya discovered that yoga was far more than a physical exercise system. It was a comprehensive approach to living—a way to integrate body, mind, and spirit, and to find genuine peace within the chaos of contemporary life.
Professional Training & Certification
Recognising the transformative power of her own practice, Tanya committed to formal yoga training. She completed her 200-hour Yoga Alliance RYS certification (ID: 252157), meeting the rigorous standards set by the international yoga community.
Understanding that authentic yoga can only be truly learned through immersion in its origins, she travelled to Devvrat Yoga School in Varkala, India—one of India’s premier yoga training centres. Under the guidance of Rakesh Kumar, Founder and Director of the Teacher Training programme, Tanya deepened her knowledge of:
- Traditional Hatha yoga – the foundational practice that builds strength, flexibility, and mental discipline
- Yin yoga philosophy – the practice of surrender, deep relaxation, and releasing emotional patterns
- Pranayama (breathwork) – the science of conscious breathing and its effects on nervous system regulation
- Yoga philosophy & ethics – the Yamas and Niyamas, and how yoga extends beyond the physical poses
- Sound healing integration – the use of traditional instruments and vibrational frequencies
- Teaching methodology – learning how to guide, cue, and hold space for students of all levels
- Meditation techniques – cultivating inner stillness and mental clarity
Why We Teach the Way We Do
Hatha Yoga: Building True Foundation
Tanya’s approach to Hatha yoga is rooted in classical tradition. Rather than pushing for increasingly complex poses, we emphasise proper alignment, conscious breathing, mind cultivation, and individual modification—honouring where your body and mind are today.
This traditional approach is particularly valuable for people with sedentary lifestyles. Modern desk work creates specific tension patterns that Hatha yoga, with its careful attention to alignment and breath, directly addresses.
Yin Yoga: The Practice of Release
In our high-stress, productivity-obsessed culture, we’re conditioned to constantly push forward. Yin yoga offers something radical: permission to be still, to be enough, to release control. By holding poses for several minutes and breathing into areas of tightness, you activate the parasympathetic nervous system—your body’s natural calming mechanism.
Sound Healing: Restoring Through Vibration
During Shavasana, Tanya uses singing bowls—ancient instruments that produce resonant frequencies supporting deep relaxation and nervous system healing. Research shows that specific sound frequencies can reduce cortisol, lower heart rate, and promote parasympathetic activation.
The Tea Ritual: Mindfulness in Transition
After every class, we gather for herbal tea. This isn’t an afterthought—it’s an essential extension of your practice, creating transition time, community, continued mindfulness, and herbal support for your wellbeing.
Our Teaching Philosophy
Everyone Belongs
Tanya teaches with a fundamental belief: yoga is for every body. Beginners are welcome, all bodies are honoured, and mental states are met with compassion.
Yoga Extends Beyond the Mat
True yoga is about integrating principles into daily life: Ahimsa (non-harm), Satya (truthfulness), Aparigraha (non-grasping), Santosha (contentment), and Svadhyaya (self-study). These aren’t abstract concepts in our classes—they’re woven into how we practise and live.
Quality Over Quantity
We maintain small class sizes to ensure personalised attention. Tanya knows her students, understands their challenges, and offers specific modifications and guidance. This isn’t a yoga fitness factory—it’s a genuine teaching relationship.
