If you lie awake with a racing mind, wake at 3am, or feel tired but wired, you are not alone — and you are not broken. Poor sleep is often a nervous system stuck in “on”. Gentle, evening-friendly yoga can help your body remember how to switch off.
How yoga may support better sleep
Slow, restful yoga helps shift you out of fight-or-flight and into the “rest and digest” (parasympathetic) state where sleep begins. Long, supported holds release the physical tension that keeps you alert, while slow breathing signals safety to the brain. This isn’t a cure — but many people find a regular practice helps them fall asleep more easily and wake less often.
What we focus on
- Yin yoga — passive floor poses held for several minutes to quiet the body and mind. Explore Yin yoga →
- Calming breathwork — simple techniques such as extended exhales that down-regulate the nervous system.
- Singing-bowl sound healing — during Shavasana, the resonance of Himalayan bowls helps the mind drop into deep rest. More on the ritual experience →
A practice you can take home
You’ll leave with a few simple tools — a breath, a pose, a moment of stillness — to use in your own bed when sleep won’t come.
Our classes are small and unhurried, in a calm studio in Golders Green, NW11. A restless mind and poor sleep often go together, so you may also find our yoga for stress & anxiety helpful.
